A document camera is an important addition in today’s virtual classroom, and my virtual classroom is lacking this option for my students. Document cameras are a great way to help students feel as if they are learning in the classroom with the teacher which is so essential in this new age of virtual learning especially for the elementary age students. Teachers are also given the freedom to use real-world documents live with their students. The camera gives teachers the ability to model hands-on use of math and science manipulatives for the students before they try it for themselves. The uses of this document camera are endless and provide that in classroom feeling to help students feel more comfortable and secure in their new virtual setting. We live in a physical world, and technology such as the document camera allows teachers to bridge the gap between the real world and the digital one. Teachers are able to use real books in the educational process while students can see objects or text clearly from anywhere. Teachers can provide real-time hands on use of various manipulatives which will guide students to solve math. Document cameras allow teachers to provide visual access of live science projects. In addition, teachers can go over quizzes and test easily with all students at one time. Please help me provide these wonderful opportunities for my students.
