The FIRST robots out team build each year are constructed mainly of aluminum and Lexan (a clear unbreakable plastic). The Lexan is used to make protective coverings for the robots delicate electronics. It also provides and excellent place to place robot stickers and decals. Lexan is very expensive and with our very limited team budget we are in need of a way to obtain these needed materials. The cost of the Lexan is approximately 40% of the total cost of the robot. We try each year to be as careful as possible and use a little Lexan as absolutely needed on the robot. We also try to reuse Lexan from old robots to keep our expenses as small as possible.
