Play supports cognitive and social development in children by requiring them to think, learn and cooperate. Games are an excellent way to help them develop mathematical concepts, computational fluency, problem solving skills and social skills while increasing their motivation and levels of engagement to help them enjoy doing math. My students need activities which provide meaningful practice opportunities, allowing them to build conceptual understanding while simultaneously providing repetitive practice of basic math skills. I teach students with special needs, many of whom are English language learners. The games I am requesting will also help my students build vocabulary and verbal expression skills.
