My first grade students are overwhelmed with the influences of media, video games, rated R movies, and the stresses of daily life. My hope for them is that they may be reeled back into childhood and inundated with arts, science, and the love of learning. They will be my students for the next three years and I am determined to give them a true taste of childhood. Even though 80% of my students come from poverty, I am certain that each one of them will be successful in his or her own way. We are an arts and sciences focused school, which means we try to teach other content areas through art and science. What I am thankful for is that my students LOVE art and science.
