Our school population is beautifully diverse with cultures, languages, learning styles and socioeconomic backgrounds. With this beautiful diversity comes an amazing array of ideas and artistic expression. The philosophy of Arts Integration at our school is built on the idea that arts integration can illuminate challenging academic content areas for students by providing them the opportunity to interact with the material in new ways. The arts create learning opportunities for different learning styles. Art-making mirrors the inquiry cycle and inherently fosters higher-order thinking skills. Children learning through the arts are asking questions, envisioning, making meaning, and problem solving. The results of this approach has elicited higher test scores and a stronger interest and connection to learning.
