My classroom is filled with eager learners looking for opportunities to access knowledge that is not readily available within their community. Our students are English language learners, with many of them being the first person in their family to learn to speak English. Their lives outside of school are very demanding and draw a lot of their focus away, as many of their basic needs are not met. They struggle on a daily basis to come to school prepared to learn and with the proper resources. However, when provided with the resources and proper motivation, they become active learners who challenge themselves to improve their skills not for a grade, but to better themselves and their situations.
