The children I teach are curious, loving and creative little people. Many of the students come from low income families. They also come from culturally diverse backgrounds. Many of my kindergarten students lack background knowledge and vocabulary because they have not had exposure to the rich language of children's literature. With the requested donations, my students will be exposed to wonderful fictional and instructional literature. The listening center materials will allow my students to listen to fluent reading, which in turn will help them become more expressive and fluent readers themselves. I want my kindergarten students to fall in love with books and reading so that they will become life-long readers.
