My students are maturing members of a small community. Most of them have known each other since they were toddlers and preschoolers. They have middle to upper-middle class backgrounds, and have experienced little diversity in their lives. They are eighth graders in a school of approximately 300 students. Their middle school has been named a "school of excellence" several years running in the State of Wisconsin.
