My students are from a small, rural town. Many will not visit relatives this summer, but will be able to meet a cast of characters in Gooney Bird Greene books. Many will not travel farther than the Extra Mart around the corner, but they can learn of new places in Kate DiCamillo books. Many will not be given opportunities to nurture, help, or give to others, but they can develop compassion and empathy from Patricia Polacco books. They are children who need good books to help shape them as readers and people!

About my class
