My students are a diverse group of individuals, each one moving along his or her path towards becoming a literate, open-minded, critical thinker. All of my students come to school with their personal life stories and experiences and contribute in various ways to our class family. Some are learning English as a second language and are the first to go to school in the United States. Many of them also come from households that struggle with poverty or other social issues. Despite the challenges that many of my students' families contend with each day, they all have one thing in common: they want to see their children develop their unique interests and strengths and become successful in school. It is my goal to give my students the skills and tools they need so that they can experience the joy and empowerment that comes from being a life-long learner.
