My students attend a California school. The majority of my students come from low income households. All of my students are second language learners at a variety of proficiencies. Most of my students speak Spanish as their primary language, but we also have students who speak Mandarin, French, Arabic, and Vietnamese (to name a few). My classroom provides them with much needed language development in a safe space where they can take risks in their learning in an effort to accelerate. Many have only lived in the United States for a year or so. My students are amazing and have a strong desire to learn English; they want nothing more than to be treated like all of the only students whose primary language is English. In my class, they do not feel shy asking any questions. They feel comfortable answering tough questions and if they get them wrong, I always find ways to thank them for their efforts. That is why I feel it is so important to teach them technology in my classroom.
