Many students in the Imperial 1st Generation Singers come from lower socio-economic backgrounds. Imperial is a Title I school with more than three quarters of the campus on free or reduced lunches. However, the choir kids are 40 of the most energetic, excited kids on campus! They love to sing and love to make music. Middle school kids love autonomy so they regularly meet as a choir council to organize and run the details of their choir. With their background, they don't always have the opportunities to hear other choirs or attend concerts so we have "Fun Friday Videos" each week. Through the videos they can get a glimpse of the musical world around them. The students come in at lunch as often as possible and work on fun side projects, such as Halloween mash-ups to perform for the class and special education students on campus. These kids are what the Disneyland CREATE program is all about! They even accompany themselves with the ukuleles they learned in ukulele club!
