My American History II students would read The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas in attempt to illustrate the social and racial issues that have taken place within the modern world. This book was written in light of Black Lives Matter and will effectively articulate a perspective on the societal issue that has been unheard in modern media. I want my students to have a voice in socio-political matters, even if the issue at hand doesn't seem to directly affect their daily lives. I also want all my students to see how the "unaffected" population of race issue react to such media clips and why it is important to address those that they may want to silence.
