My students are excited, energetic and motivated 5th graders. There are approximately 60 students in total. Many of them do not have the same real life experiences that I was fortunate to have while growing up. Poor economic conditions have limited their ability to travel within and out of our state. A lot of them have not been to beaches, aquariums, museums, libraries, parks or vacation spots. In some cases, they have little knowledge about things around them including anything historical or scientific. I am hoping to change this through reading.
