The students in my classroom often need individual instruction. A one to one student to teacher ratio is not possible, of course. When we are working one on one with students, we need an engaging activity for those who have completed their work or are waiting their turn. These boys and girls love technology, and when given a choice of activities, often choose the computer. However, most of them have difficulty using a desktop computer by themselves. This limits their accessibility to engaging and entertaining instructional websites. The students are much more comfortable with touch screen devices. iPads will allow them to access instructional websites and apps independently. The students in my classroom are all working, at different levels, on basic math and reading skills. There are many apps available through an iPad that will give them the opportunity for additional practice in these areas. The iPad touchscreen is accessible to the students who have difficulty with fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. When they have completed their work or need a scheduled break, the Ipad will give them access to individual instruction through technology. iPads in the classroom will allow my students to access instructional technology!
