My students are in a Spanish-English dual immersion K-8 independent charter school in an impoverished neighborhood of a major city in California. Many of them have faced unthinkable hardships, and yet come to school every day with their brightness and love of learning which inspires me to be my best for them. It is challenging to bring them quality curriculum and instruction in two languages, but they never cease to amaze me how they are able to learn in one language, and then create student projects in the other! I am so proud that many of my middle school students eagerly volunteer to share their time teaching and helping the kindergarten students at our school during their 'elective' periods. They are an amazing group, and I learn from them every day.
