I am a 1st grade Spanish Immersion teacher. Currently I hold a very special position in which I teach my class half of the day in English and half of the day in Spanish. Every year I can see the positive effect that learning a second language have in a child's life. They develop confidence and self esteem when they are able to communicate in the target language. They also learn math and science concepts in the target language and apply this knowledge in regular task performance assessment. My classroom is culturally diverse, which promotes a healthy environment and a global citizenship mindset. I use that unique characteristic to develop literacy, math awareness and critical thinking skills. I teach them to become lifelong learners and problem solvers. They are always challenged to do their best and go beyond their capabilities. Every year, they teach me something new and I am amazed by their greatness.
