Students at our school have struggled in the area of language arts. This is evidenced by our school being 14 out of 15 schools in Hamilton County demonstrating growth in the area of language arts according to TVAAS. It is my first year to teach at this school, but we are examining data and working hard as a department to find a solution. Poetry offers swift pacing, chances for collaboration among students, and opportunities for guided practice with shorter text selections during the reading workshop.
