The goal of this project is to expand the classroom experience by providing outdoor classroom space through the addition of tables to the patio space already attached to the art classrooms. This will allow the teachers to expand their curriculum to include outdoor projects and nature inspired artwork. This space will increase student engagement by allowing students to experience time outside the traditional classroom as they explore their creative abilities. Exposure to sun and the outdoors has also been shown to decrease student anxiety and lower stress. This space also has the ability to be used by other groups/organizations in the school. For example, during the summer the band uses the art classrooms for band camp space. The expansion of the patio will expand the areas they have to use for events such as this. This project will enhance the educational environment of students and teachers by expanding the classroom space into the outdoors. This allows both students and teachers to increase focus, relax in a different environment with fresh air. This project will enhance school/classroom culture by also enhancing the aesthetics of the outside space.
