My students attend a title I school located in downtown Houston. 98% of the students who attend our school are considered economically disadvantaged. Despite their surroundings my students want to learn. My classroom consist of 22 students ages 4 and 5. Of my 22 students five of them are, English Language Learners, refuges from Somali. Another portion of my class currently lives in the local shelter. My students came to school without knowledge of letters, colors, and numbers but instead worry and fear. I feel that these children deserve to educated. They deserve to be loved and receive a chance a better life then what they see around them. During the first few weeks of school my students had major issues with using profanity, verbal and physical abuse, and disobedience. These children were displaying behaviors they are accustomed to, I had to teach them about choices and respect. Despite the challenges my students and I face, I love them dearly. These children are our future.
