My students are all English Language Learners. Majority of them are immigrants from different countries, a small percentage are born in the U.S. but speak a different first language. The immigrant students come from an array of backgrounds, some are born in the U.S. with supportive parents, others come from war torn countries, poverty stricken neighborhoods and broken families. They come to America from all over the world: Ghana, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Honduras, Yemen and many other countries. Some have watched their family members die because of war, natural disasters, have experienced gang wars and treacherous living conditions that even I as their teacher can't imagine. They come to America hoping for a better life and the opportunity to live and prosper. I want to help their hopes and dreams become a reality and guide them to aim higher in life.
