My students have mild to moderate learning disabilities, including visual and auditory process deficits, which make learning certain skills challenging. Ninety percent of them are Hispanic and 80% are English Learners. We are at an inner-city, low-socioeconomic level high school. Most of my students are very interested in learning and strive to do well in their classes in order to graduate. In past years, when I would try to get them to learn the times tables, they were not successful. They have, through the years, expressed extreme frustration and have struggled in algebra, which several of them have unnecessarily failed.
