My students come from all over the world for every reason imaginable. Some are here attending high school, or school in general, for the first time as refugees. Others are here because they or a family member are receiving health care not available in their own country. Some are migrant students here until they travel back to Texas. They are lovely young adults with the potential to do great things. The students with whom I work are beginner and advanced beginner level (English Language) EL learners. They are eager to learn and reading is a gateway that will allow them access to all the things they want from their lives.
