My students come from a high poverty area and attend an urban school. Many of them face added adult responsibilities after school and really do not get to enjoy their childhood. Our district has been under a spending freeze for many years and one of the first cuts was to periodicals. In the past students have always enjoyed reading and discussing current events. Many of my students rarely have the opportunity to leave the city. I believe that Scholastic Scope will help broaden their horizons and build their prior knowledge.
