I am lucky to teach in a very diverse school. My students are diverse in many ways. For starters they are diverse by age. Geometry is typically listed as a 10th grade class, I teach students as young as 12 years old who have been placed in advanced classes through testing. My students are also diverse in their educational experiences. While some are taking geometry as an advanced placement others only have a few years of formal education due to spending much of their lives in refugee camps. While many of my students grew up in the United States, others are refugees who speak over a dozen different home languages. From black to white, monolingual to multilingual, or Ponytail to hijab, my students are eager to engage in genuine learning experiences that will help them understand the world around them.
