My students keep me on my toes! They challenge me to be a better teacher every day and I welcome the challenge! They are typical silly and emotional preteen 6th graders! I enjoy exposing them to new experiences and watch as their eyes grow large with excitement! I have introduced them to yoga and will start a class with them and their gym teacher! My students are inner city children with various backgrounds. Some come from single parent homes and many are raised by grandparents. Many live in the projects in the surrounding are. Most, but not all, are African American. For many for the students, school is the only stability they know. Many are very sweet even though their home life is very difficult. Our staff and our school is very close knit. The teachers try to work with students and parents, especially those in severe situations. We have a special needs population which is mainstreamed, and we also have a medically fragile population as well which has taught the student tolerance.
