My 5th grade students are inquisitive, creative, and enthusiastic individuals. They have a passion for learning and a hunger for technology. Yet, they face certain disadvantages. They live in a low income and densely populated community. Most students are English language learners, whose parents speak very little, if any, English. Many parents work multiple jobs and have little time or resources to enhance their children's education. Most of my students do not have computers or internet access at home. Furthermore, budget cuts have impacted our community as well as our school resources. Our only city library is in danger of closing. Our computer lab and school library have closed their doors due to lack of personnel. Unfortunately, it is my students who suffer. I want my students to have the necessary technological resources that many people take for granted.
