I am a special education teacher in California and I teach a class of 14 students with moderate to severe disabilities. I teach various subjects which include: life skills, vocational training, functional academics such as reading, writing, and mathematics, as well as community-based instruction. Like any teacher, I believe my students deserve the best education possible. In saying that, I need support in acquiring a new classroom computer to replace the stolen items. My students heavily rely on using computers as a form of assistive technology. Some students need specialized writing programs to help communicate their basic needs. Others are learning how to access the Internet to search for jobs, learn to ride the bus by planning trips on the transportation website, and others use computer time as a reinforcer for positive behavior. After filing police reports and appealing to the district for replacements have failed, I am reaching out to Donors Choose.
