Students need the feel of real books in their hands. Remote learning can feel intangible and disconnected. We will be doing a year-long study of plants. We will be growing plants in our homes, conducting experiments, and we will be growing plants we can eat! In this environment of remote learning, students need to get their hands dirty and ignite their curiosity. Also, studies show that growing plants help with mood, productivity, concentration, and creativity. Plants also help to reduce stress and fatigue. They help with sore throats and make our air cleaner. During this time, these are things our students desperately need. Thumbing through the pages of real books, will help students dive into their study of plants. In order to support our study of plants, students will need a library of books for reference. The list of books we are requesting will be circulated to our students to read throughout the year. We will have a lending library. I will be doing socially distanced home visits once a week. In this way we will be able to share the books we read. Some of the books will serve as excellent reference guides to return to throughout the year. For those books, I have requested multiple copies. I am committed to making this year a great one. Even though my students and I will be far apart, we are still going to have hands-on learning! We have to. Please help make this a reality.
