Our students thrive in inquiry-based projects. They are a remarkable group of elementary students who are curious about their world. We strive to guide them down a path toward success. Our garden dovetails perfectly with the Burlington School Food Project whose mission is to bring students and families closer to wholesome, local food. When students become invested in growing their own food, they become invested in themselves and so too, in healthy eating habits. More than half of our students receive free or reduced priced lunches. Our garden to lunch meals, loaded with fresh, local produce, enrich their bodies and minds and follows them home, often in the form of fresh veggies from our garden. We know the benefits of the garden extend beyond healthy eating habits. Our "sunflower forest" provides a warm welcome to kids and families as they arrive at school. And, the meandering pathway invites entry into the school building via the garden giving them a great start to their day.
