My students come from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds. We live in a rural area of North Carolina, made up of mostly farming communities. Several of my students have parents who are on active duty in the military, deployed or veterans. Like many other schools, we have suffered greatly this year with budget issues. There have been many staff cuts, supply reductions, and no monies funded for anything "extra." I spend a great deal of my own money just to have the basic teaching tools.
