All of my students receive free/reduced lunch, and many come from single-parent homes. Few enter the 3rd grade able to read English. Yet despite these challenges, they approach every new book, vocabulary word and spelling test with enthusiasm and excitement. They attend a neighborhood bilingual school in Illinois and, when not reading, love to play sports, watch the latest 3-D movies and being with their families.

About my class
