My students are a spirited and gifted group of teens who attend a public visual and performing arts high school in downtown Los Angeles. Some students live in the downtown neighborhood while other travel as much as 2 1/2 hours a day to attend. All students have a desire to explore their inner artist through visual art, dance, theatre and music. Near 100% percent of the students receive free lunch. The school has suffered from a massive lack of funding due to cuts in arts education which is the center of our school. Despite lack of funding for arts resources, the students do not lack the talent, enthusiasm and personal commitment that it takes to be an artist and thinker for this generation.
