Young Americans Experience Social Studies through Reading

My Students

Those that fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it. This quote from Santayana, along with a quote from Walt Disney, "Our nation's greatest resource is our children." is why I feel so passionately about teaching our young Americans about their country's past.

My students represent a cross-section of America.

They come from middle class and impoverished families in central Florida. They are gifted, they have disabilities, they are native speakers of English and they are brand new to our country. Some have beautiful homes and some currently have no home at all. They are Caucasian, Black, Hispanic, and Asian. My students ARE America.

My Project

These magazines, Time for Kids, Weekly Reader, and Scholastic Story Works combine current issues facing America and a variety of social studies topics and my students, while at the same time guiding them as they practice their reading comprehension and writing skills.

These resources are imperative to providing my students with authentic reading materials.

These periodicals offer current information that the students can easily relate to and enjoy reading. Thank you for supporting our young Americans as they visit their past, analyze the present, and prepare for a bright future.
