My students need a writing center, 24 dry erase boards and 12 erasers to work on the writing curriculum focus that our district has adopted this school year.
"If you want to be a writer, you MUST do two things ABOVE all others, READ a lot & WRITE a lot." Stephen King. I tell my students this important truth all the time. And so we read a lot and write a lot. We need these resources to provide a space for narrative, informational and opinion writing.
My students are in a school that has a population of about 1/3 Caucasian, 1/3 African-American, and 1/3 English as a Second Language students.
In my class particularly, 50% of students are ELLs.
We are in an economically challenged area of our city. Our entire school has qualified for free breakfast and free lunch this school year. I also have a special education cluster in my room. We are a very busy classroom with a great deal of needs.
My Project
This writing center will allow my students to organize all of their writing materials in one place. It will provide a space where my students can create and access our WORD WALL. The dry erase boards and erasers will allow my students to use their imagination and creativity as well as access the writing curriculum that our district is emphasizing this year.
All of my students have many stories to write and share, some very cool and some very heart-breaking.
This project will allow them to have all the materials they need at their finger tips so they can write stories from their hearts.
