I teach 140 7th and 8th graders in a small community in Oklahoma. Middle school is a special time for students. They are trying to figure out what they want to do with their lives. My students need to know they have what it takes to be successful
Our school is a Title One School.
We have a nice lab but as we have used consumables we have not been able to replace them. I was recently with a group of people who are employed in a variety of careers in the Medical Field. They wanted to know if students still got to dissect a frog. I had to say not in several years, but that we did do the virtual dissection. They all said that having that first hands-on experience of dissecting a frog in Middle School encouraged them to pursue a careers in Medicine. It peaked their interest in how the body works, and made them realize it was something they could do.
My Project
Our dissection will be done in conjunction with a unit on Human Anatomy. Many of the bones, organs and muscles in frogs are similar to those in people. This reinforces the concept that all living things are complex. It also reinforces the understanding of ecology, classification and evolution. Students will have an opportunity to notice many adaptations which allow frogs to survive in specific habitat.
Your donation could help inspire the next scientist or medical professional.
We need some help in letting our students know they can be successful. Thank you for your consideration in our effort to "get some frogs"
