My students need science instruments to get hands-on, real life experience with the content our standards say they need to learn. They need digital scales.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Have you ever experienced science first hand? Of course you have, because you once had a teacher make science come alive! That is my goal for my students. I want to inspire them to become lifelong scientists that seek to understand the world around them.
If you had a window into my classroom, you would not be able to tell that my students come from low income families.
My 5th grade students are excited and passionate about science. They are eager to learn and investigate why things happen the way they do. Most of them do not get the opportunity to have the life experiences that many other children do, but they truly value the experiences they are given.
My Project
I am requesting digital scales. The scales will be used to aid in our study of matter by allowing us to weigh objects before and after physical and chemical changes have occurred. The students will also be able to compare the weight of an object to the sum of its parts.
This project is so important because it will provide a group of students with experiences they may otherwise never have.
It will help them to be able to make sense of the world around them.
