We Need Our Weekly Readers Renewed

My students need 30 subscriptions to Weekly Reader Current Events Magazine.

My Students

Weekly Reader magazines have been an important part of our weekly routine in my classroom. Every Friday, my students enjoy reading their magazine. My students look forward to each delivery. They are able to learn from expository text that is exactly at their level. They love their Weekly Readers!

For my students, current events are not really discussed at home.

My students live in a low income area. Most families live in apartments and receive AFDC funding. Their families do not get the daily newspaper. It also isn't common for the children to go home and watch the news. Having Weekly Readers, gives my students a chance to learn about social events that are important to their age group. We discuss the articles and enjoy learning about new and exciting topics around the world. These magazines really encourage children to read and learn about topics that they normally wouldn't read about. Having Weekly Readers in my classroom has made a positive impact on my students. Reading these weekly magazines have opened up a new world to the children that they never would have seen or experienced without these Weekly Readers.

My Project

My students are thrilled when we receive our Weekly Readers in the mail. They remind me to check the mail during my breaks starting on Wednesday hoping that the delivery is earlier than Friday. If students are unable to enjoy their magazine on Friday afternoon, they always take it home over the weekend. It is very exciting to see children interested in expository text. They want to read these magazines and it is a highlight of their week. Many of my students keep each issue so they can read it again later. Receiving a renewed subscription would really make my 5th grade students very happy.

Having Weekly Readers is a luxury that no teacher can afford.

Receiving a renewed subscription would really help expose my students to new and different topics of life. They really love these articles. The pictures are beautiful and intriguing. Weekly Readers really makes a difference in my students' learning. Please help us by renewing our subscription!
