My Students

Did you know that listening to stories on tape can increase your vocabulary, comprehension and fluency in reading. Not only that, but it can also increase test scores, social skills and written performance in school. Hearing books on tape helps words become alive in a fluid, expressive way.

What child doesn't love to listen to their favorite stories over and over again.

However with parents working multiple jobs, many can't afford to purchase books for their children. Going to the library is not always an option for these busy families. Therefore many children don't have the opportunity to hear stories read aloud at home.

My Project

I have a great collection of books on tape but without the cassette players my students will not be able to listen to them. I love to read to my students, but I want to give them the opportunity to listen to stories independently. I believe that the most important benefit of using audio books in the classroom is the capacity to increase reading level comprehension while utilizing and strengthening their listen skills. This combination gives children the opportunity to exercise various parts of the brain that are critical to development.

More than half of our learning is achieved just through listening. Listening to books on tape will help my students become better listeners and thereby better learners. Books on tape give children a different approach to reading. For those auditory learners this may be the tool needed to spark their interest and love of reading and learning. My students need cassette players with batteries so they can listen to the great collection of books on tape I found when I moved into my new classroom.
