Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you learn better when you are actively involved? Do you learn more when you are having fun? So do my students!

My first graders are eager learners who come from diverse backgrounds.

Many are English Language Learners and have worked hard to learn to read. Our county does an integrated curriculum that is built around thinking and academic success skills, and my students do many things collaboratively. I like to encourage collaboration even when they are working in centers, but I also offer independent options.

My Project

My students need games such as Grab Bag Plurals Game, Word Work Folder Games Library and Gone Fishin' Contractions Game, to support their emerging literacy skills in first grade. I am a first year teacher who is building a repertoire of games, and this will add to it. I am seeking games to support literacy skills, including phonics, spelling, and contractions. Most of the games can be played either alone or with a partner. Many can also be used with a small group in teaching and reinforcing language skills.

My students get excited when I introduce a new game, and love to teach each other once they learn to play!

These games will last over the years so that students each year can benefit from them, enhancing their literacy too. Students also learn to care for things in our classroom.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
