We Love Doing Math On Dry Erase Boards!

My students need 36 dry erase boards, dry erase markers, and erasers to work on math problems, play math games in small groups, and have math contests while having fun and not wasting paper.

My Students

Do you remember doing math by copying 35 problems out of a book and solving them with pencil and paper? You did this twice a day, once for classwork and once for homework. What if math classwork could actually be fun? What if students could write with vibrant colors, wipe them off, and start again?

My students attend a very diverse school in the heart of Los Angeles.

There are more than 15 different languages spoken at the school. Many of the parents are new immigrants and cannot afford to provide their children with necessary school supplies. While we have some parent participation, a lot of our parents work and do not have the opportunity to contribute either time or money to our school.

My Project

Using dry erase boards, students will be able to graph, play multiplication/division and other games in small groups, and solve problems during math competitions. Students who normally are hesitant to participate will not be able to resist the temptation of writing on white shiny boards with bright colors, erasing easily, and starting again. I think my students' interest and their confidence in math will increase.

I want my students to love math.

I want them to have fun doing math and not be afraid of it. I hope this will make a difference in my students' long term education and career goals.
