My students need 42 new library books on subjects that appeal to them. They have asked for sports books in the library.

My Students

It's a well-known fact that students will read more if there are books that are interesting to them. A lot of boys (and not a few girls!) have asked repeatedly for more sports books in the library. Our collection of sports-related materials is small and dated.

Our school is a public charter school with a limited library budget.

A Title I School, many of our students have few resources to own their own books, or have access to books from the public library. For many of our students, the school library is their only source of books. Our students love to read, and have definite ideas of what they want.

My Project

So many students have asked me for more books about sports. The books will be available in the library for any student to check out. In addition, many of our students participate in our "Reading Bingo" program, in which students strive to read 100 books during the school year. Reading Bingo challenges students to read books on many genres. These books will help fulfill some of those requirements.

In the library setting, nothing deters students from reading more than an outdated or uninteresting collection.

I know these books will be checked out and read because the students have told me that they want books about sports. They express their disappointment that what they want is unavailable to them.
