Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Each semester I push students to create great videos, and they always impress me. I want to raise production value and ability to learn by doing. We need to step up to producing our own audio. These tools will help students record pro audio, and facilitate live digital performance.

Our school is serving approximately 380 students in grades 9-12 in an urban area of California.

The school serves a diverse student body that mirrors the ethnic and socioeconomic diversity of our local community. Some of our goals include: the integration of technical and academic education to prepare students for post-secondary education in both high tech and liberal arts fields, increasing the number of educationally disadvantaged students in math and engineering who succeed in high school and post-secondary education. Our school features a focus on international studies.

My Project

The M-Box audio interface allows students to plug a microphone, guitar, keyboard or instrument with 1/4" & XLR cables directly into the computer, for recording or performance. The software that comes with the M-Box is an industry standard for pro audio recordings. The MIDI pads will allow students to customize their own 'virtual instruments' which they can use for recording compositions or, I hope, for live performance. Each semester I try to shift the focus of our digital arts from composed, archived products to spontaneous, performed artwork. With the tools you're helping to provide, this will be a possibility for my students.

Students this year, and for years to come, will be able to dream beyond the traditional idea of 'making a video.' They can imagine plugging their guitar in and scoring silent films real-time.

They will be able to make studio-quality audio tracks, and they'll teach me and each other something new with access to these materials. Thank you!
