"If you can see it, You can do it!" Chemistry is hard enough when you have to take notes and bust through endless worksheets. Technology transforms the experience making it far more visual! With a growing iPad count and this projector system, chemistry is coming alive in a whole new way!

"Squirrel!" That line from the Disney Movie "Up" perfectly describes 95% of my students.

Well meaning, kind and considerate intentions don't change the fact that they have been programmed by the rampant media downpour that plagues their attention skills. They aren't the most affluent kids in town. They are in a very difficult place. This particular area of Murrieta hosts the students who's parents make too much to qualify as a Title I school, but don't have the money to put the right tools in their hands to make learning as efficient as it could be. I am contently plagued by this ironic duality. I've built computer systems, begged, and more permanently "borrowed" technology to put them in the driver's seat for learning. Our school is just now starting to see the power the technology has to influence learning. I know how to design it and implement it. Having the right tools to bring my skills to their fruition is my biggest challenge.

My Project

I currently have 3 of the 4 key parts to making a wireless notation and presentation system for my students and me to use. I have: 1) the AppleTV unit that can take the media and screen images and feed them to a presentation device, 2) the wireless router that is required to connect my iPad to the AppleTV, and 3) my own iPad that I've purchased out-of-pocket. This projector is the last step to allow for all the media, notes, student work (students can use the AppleTV to connect their own iOS devices and display their own media and work). However, the school projector is not properly configured to work with the AppleTV, so a second projector is necessary to achieve the necessary instructional integration between me, the curriculum, and the students.

The money raised by this project will allow students to participate in a level of learning that few students will have the opportunity to participate.

They will be able to visually collaborate on notes, projects, and present work quicker and more reliably than every before. 75% of the neural processing done by the brain is geared towards the visual sense organs (Media, "Brain Rules"). Designing and presenting more visually dominant media rapidly increases my student's learning.
