"Squirrel!" That line from the Disney Movie "Up" perfectly describes 95% of my students. Well meaning, kind and considerate intentions don't change the fact that they have been programmed by the rampant media downpour that plagues their attention skills. They aren't the most affluent kids in town. They are in a very difficult place. This particular area of Murrieta hosts the students who's parents make too much to qualify as a Title I school, but don't have the money to put the right tools in their hands to make learning as efficient as it could be. I am contently plagued by this ironic duality. I've built computer systems, begged, and more permanently "borrowed" technology to put them in the driver's seat for learning. Our school is just now starting to see the power the technology has to influence learning. I know how to design it and implement it. Having the right tools to bring my skills to their fruition is my biggest challenge.
