Teeny Techies: Learning Through Technology

My students need 5 iPad minis with cases to better support their learning in both literacy and math instruction.

My Students

“We need to embrace technology to make learning more engaging. Because when students are engaged and they are interested, that's where learning takes place.” The author of the quote is unknown, but I bet any educator in today's schools could say that - I know I have!

My students are curious, engaged, and excited leaners.

They crave new learning and I want them to keep that sense of motivation and excitement alive! My school is a new STEAM school - the first and only elementary STEAM school in our district. Part of STEAM includes Technology and being a new school, we are slowly building up our technological resources. Currently, my grade level shares a class set of Chromebooks. The children are SO excited when it is our day to use them and I want to keep that excitement going. When children are excited and motivated to learn, their learning takes off like a rocket ship!

My Project

These iPad Minis will be used throughout the day. The best part of educational technology is that it allows me to differentiate instruction - to meet each individual child right where he or she is. Currently, in both Math and Literacy blocks, I schedule in time for centers, a time when children get to practice skills in small groups or partnerships. I cannot wait for the day I get to tell my students we now have an iPad Center! I can just imagine their faces lighting up!! In both Math and Literacy time, I plan on using the iPad Minis during centers - a time when children get to interact, explore, and work on skills in small groups. Additionally, I will use the iPads for small literacy intervention groups to help identify and target specific skills children need to work on to become successful readers.

Many of my students do not have access to this type of educational technology in their homes.

By donating to this project, you are giving these children a unique - but imperative - learning opportunity. We are aiming to teach these children 21st century skills. However, without access to 21st century technology, these children will be a step behind. Not only will these iPads provide fun and excitement, they will provide the key to unlocking motivation - the most important ingredient to learning.
