Tech Savvy Students

My students need 20 USB Flash Drives to save their electronic work so that the work won't be erased by the school's computers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How frustrating is it to do research and save work done on the computer and then have it all be gone the next day? That is extremely frustrating especially since the students are learning how to use the computer and it's wonderful resources without a place to save.

The Smarties are 2nd grade students from a low-income community where every student receives free lunch.

The majority of the students are English language Learners who have been labeled below proficient the previous year or when in Kinder, leaving them with many language struggles. A majority of the students do not own computers nor have Internet access at home leaving a technological gap as they are not exposed to the technology. They are knowledgeable of the resources as they have a computer class once a week, but do not possess a lot of the skills needed in our 21st century world.

My Project

With the USB Flash Drives my students will be able to create digital projects either by creating a video on Windows Movie Maker, searching and saving pictures from the Internet, or typing a report using Word without having to rush and finish it all in one sitting. Especially when we only have a 40 minute time period when I will be able to take the students to the computer lab.

Allowing students to become creative and use technology has a high potential of the student internalizing a concept and becoming part of their long term memory.

When thinking back to our elementary years we always remembers those extraordinary, hands on, and creative projects that required us to use our imagination and more than just what we have memorized. This project will allow my students to create those types of experiences.
