My students need a CD player and wireless headphones for the listening center. Headphones with speakers are beneficial when students want to record their reading.
Have you ever tried to untangle cords so you can you use an electronic device or a kitchen gadget? Precious learning time is wasted when my students need to untangle cords before they listen to their favorite stories at the listening center. Microphone headsets are great for recording their stories.
My students are excited first grade students who want to listen to stories, read stories, and record their own stories that they have written.
The theme in our classroom is to "Reach for the Stars!". I believe this age is an ideal age to instill the love of learning and the knowledge that when they work hard they can obtain their goals.
My classroom is classified as the "high achievers' class" but I still have students that range the spectrum of ability. All students when given the right opportunities, guidance, and encouragement will make great strides in reaching their academic and social goals.
We need to provide a variety of ways to reach the same goal because each of my students come to my classroom with their own personalities, strengths, and weaknesses. I must allow students to foster their strengths and overcome their weaknesses by being a facilitator who is willing to provide material to help inspire each individual in my classroom.
My Project
My students will be improving their fluency, writing skills, and comprehension strategies by using the listening center and computer center during small group time. They will complete their center activities and independent work.
The groups will be able concentrate their time on enjoying and learning from the story instead of spending all of their time untangling the headsets before they can even begin listening to their stories.
The microphones are vital for a child to independently read and listen and hear how they sound. In conjunction with a computer software program I have I can record their reading and use it at SEP conferences or during a team meeting if a student requires additional services.
The best part of these items I am requesting is that it makes learning enjoyable for my students. They are participating in quality activities while I work with my small groups during literacy and numeracy portions of the day.
First grade students must become fluent in reading and comprehending texts.
First grade is a vital time in creating these foundational skills that they will use for the rest of their lives. I want to provide my students with the resources to use to foster these skills while they are in my classroom. The headsets, CD player, and microphone headsets are great tools in refining their fluency skills.
