Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The biggest challenge that faces our students here is the lack of technology. They would help in increasing the activity level in our physical education class.

The students here are some of the most passionate, genuinely happy, free-hearted students, who happen to be in a school with very few resources.

They yearn to participate and grow with new opportunities that they don't get at home: the need to be inspired, to know that they can do whatever they desire to do, becoming healthy. So moving in class is now a necessity, due to the underactivity. They don't enjoy moving and exercising currently, due to the routine. The school and the students need some vitality and creativity that the iPods would bring. The students live in and attend a school within a community of high poverty, many single parent homes, and 95% free meal environment. The use of technology is very minimal.

My Project

Ipods in the classrooms have taken on a new role. In our physical education class, we will be using technology that advances learning and movement in this new generation. We plan to use the iPod and its app capacity to become more active. The goal is to completely utilize this mobile device. Our plan is to track each student's progress and time, using these resources to record and document visual and printed samples, recording the progress from beginning to end and reward the students based on its findings with this mobile device. The students will learn how to incorporate movement into every aspect of their daily lives. We will be able to monitor the progress of the physical activity of each student and individualize an exercise plan.

The difference that this addition to our class would make is vital to this technological generation.

Being able to promote healthy living and physical activity alternatives will save the lives of our children. The donations will make a difference because currently the students can't afford to purchase their own iPods yet. The use of them will teach them the importance of having one of their own. The project will encourage students to learn about their bodies and how they can get in motion.
