Students Bring Garden to the School Campus

My students need these tools and seeds to give them opportunities to work and learn more about keeping the campus and earth green.

My Students

In an era where inner city students are loosing PE classes but gaining weight, sitting glued to video games and not running and playing outdoor. All they see are adverts for chips, burgers fries, and a coke, but not healthy vegetables. We want to get them moving and eating healthy through gardening!

Our kids come from many different backgrounds, but many are poor and sedentary.

A treat for them is a bag of Hot Cheetos. We want to let them pick their own, plums, pomegranates, oranges, pears, carrots, peas, and broccoli from their orchard and gardens. Our school is trying to create a greener environment by having orchard of different fruits and gardens that plant different vegetables. In addition, our small village is integrating gardening and farming into our daily circular in hope of teaching our young learners the character traits of cooperation and sharing by experiencing hands on activities in the garden through using tools and equipments.

My Project

You can help us by donating tools so that they can dig, rake, hoe and prune. We want to see them smile when they pick up an earthworm or watch caterpillars spin a chrysalis in the butterfly garden. By working in the garden, students will enhance academic skills in writing and math. Through the garden, young learners will learn about cycles of different plants and animals. Not only will the garden enhance students academically, but it will also promote the learning about trees, flowers, and insects. In addition, students will learn that people around the world grow their own food and we can do the same in our small school. Students will also understand the concept of peace through sharing of tools, songs, and treats.

These donations will give our students living experience not only in math and science, but they will give them a sense of belonging and community that happen when adults and students build something beautiful together.

Using the tools will allow students plant fruit and vegetable trees to help the environment. It will promote positive practices of gardening, sharing, and celebration of our school. They will use the tools to grow and harvest their own healthy snacks.
